Arnold Yang is a sophomore at Westview High School. Arnold has been immersed with STEM related community volunteer work and projects since he was nine years old. At Westview High School, Arnold is the president of Cybersecurity Club, leading the club members in constructive learning of advanced knowledge such as reverse engineering, binary exploitation, Linux and Cisco Networking. Outside of school Arnold is the team captain of CyberPatriot team 14-1097 Titanturtles. He leads a team of six students from six different high schools and middle schools. Arnold’s team has achieved Oregon 1st place state champion in the three rounds of CyberPatriot competition and currently ranks # 82 out of 3,315 teams across the globe.

Arnold is also an active team mate on Westview High School FRC team 1510 BPS Robotics. Outside of Cyber Security and Robotics, Arnold dedicates a lot of his time teaching young chess players and engages in a lot of national level chess competitions. Arnold currently ranks the highest in US Rating amongst all Westview High School students.

Arnold is passionate about giving back to and uplifting the communities. He tutored 7th to 8th graders helping them prepare for the Math Olympiad Competition from 2020-2021 competition season. He helped organize and trained all the student tutors of the Math Kangaroo competition for grades K-12 in 2021.

Prior to the pandemic, Arnold was the leader of the chess, robotics and speedcubing departments of the Y2Y club, drafting syllabus and framework of tutoring younger students with extensive knowledge in lego robotics, basic chess tactics, and solving the rubik’s cube.

In addition, Arnold also contributes to Asian communities in 2021 during the Mother of All Relays in the world, the Hood to Coast (HTC) event. Arnold and his younger brother interviewed runners from 4 different HTC teams as well as leaders and volunteers from Oregon Chinese Coalition. He composed and designed video news coverage of the Chinese Community teams, Beijing University teams, showcasing the strength and passion for sports and wellness from AAPI Community.

Oregon Chinese Coalition is proud to join the President of the United States in recognizing the volunteers who consistently take the time to make a difference in the lives of others. Therefore, it is a great honor to present the President’s Volunteer Service Award (PVSA) to Arnold Yang.
